Patients are billed transportation charges if they are transported to the emergency department of an area hospital. The City of Garland has established three transport fees for citizens (resident) and three fees for non-residents. The reason for the three tiered level is to coincide with Medicare's fee schedules.
BLS is a Basic Life Support transport. This type of transport means that the patient required no advanced medical procedures, such as an IV.
ALS1 means that a patient required at least one Advanced Life Support procedure such as an IV or administration of a medication.
ALS2 means that the patient required three or more Advanced Life Support procedures.
