The highly anticipated Downtown Square construction has started and, in about two years, will create a destination like never before. But for now, the businesses in the 500 block of Main Street and Garland's renowned Roach Feed and Seed are dealing with blocked off streets and honestly, a bit of a mess.
These businesses are open and need your support. Parking can be accessed from Sixth Street, from Avenue A behind the businesses on Main and from State Street, including behind Roach Feed and Seed. Signs and maps will lead you to available parking.
Downtown Square construction will take place in four phases, each lasting about six months. In this first phase, Fifth Street and Main are blocked near the square. Eventually, those will reopen as blockages rotate to State and Sixth. Beyond the Square, up to 14 blocks of streetscapes are being improved in the broader Downtown area. That work is starting along parts of State, Avenue A and Seventh streets.
