Signage Unveiled at Ronald E. Jones Municipal Building

The City of Garland celebrated a legend Friday, June 23, when signage at the Ronald E. Jones Municipal Building, 800 Main St., was unveiled. Our former Main Street Municipal Building has been renamed to honor Jones' lifetime of public service, including six years as an Assistant City Manager in Garland and six years as its Mayor.

City and community leaders and Jones himself noted that Garland was a place where Jones' core beliefs and values were shared through his leadership.

"Garland continues to be a premier City," and a place of choice for businesses and families, and a place where government remains accessible to the residents, Jones said while standing with his wife, Peggy. "We love you and we will always be at your service."

Jones joined City staff in April 1977. He led 14 departments and rose to the ranks of Assistant City Manager, a post he held during his final six years as a Garland employee. He then retired to run for Mayor, winning three-way races in 2007 and 2009, taking more than 83% of the vote in his reelection bid. He was unopposed in 2011.

Jones said he is looking forward to celebrating with family and friends, just as he did when the Garland City Council unanimously voted to rename the building the Ronald E. Jones Municipal Building at its Sept. 20, 2022, meeting.

The building is home to the City’s permitting processes, its planners, engineers, transportation officials and others who are at the heart of Garland’s day-to-day operations.
